What is the MBA iCOP?

The MBA International Community Outreach Program, or iCOP, is currently a student-run initiative. The iCOP's mission is to send graduate business students overseas to apply business knowledge, skills and experience to assist communities and organizations in the developing world apply best business practices to improve their ability to independently tackle poverty in their communities.

What kind of projects has the MBA iCOP been involved in?

In 2008, two students from the John Molson School of Business participated in the MBA iCOP.

Olivier Romain worked with the Municipal Direction of Los Olivos in Lima, Peru. In addition to providing legal advise regarding small and micro businesses, Olivier participated in a number of local conferences related to accounting practices, marketing and the exports.

Malaz Sebai worked with San Arts and Crafts in Botswana. San Arts and Crafts is a part of the Kuru Family of Organizations, a group dedicated to all aspects of self-help among marginalized groups. Malaz's role consisted of all administrative, HR, financial and operational functions until a local manager was hired in September, 2008.

How do I get involved?

The MBA iCOP is presently seeking applicants for participation in the program for the summer of 2009. In conjunction with the University of Oregon's M.A.P.L.E. Program, the two JMSB students chosen will work on a variety of projects in Uganda starting in late June for a period of eight weeks.
